The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government's working priority is developing economy and improving the public welfare, the HKSAR chief executive Donald Tsang said here Thursday.
With the discussion on constitutional development ended earlier, the 2007 Chief Executive Election and the 2008 Legislative Council(LegCo) Election will be conducted according to the existing arrangements because his proposed package was not adopted by the LegCo on December 21, said Tsang.
Reiterating that there will be no alternative proposal, the chief executive said minor refinements will be introduced through local legislation to ensure that the two elections can be conducted in a smooth way.
The Strategic Development Commission's committee on governance and political development will conduct a two-stage discussion related to the issue, he told LegCo, adding that the government will concentrate on developing economy and improving welfare of the people.
In an attempt to achieve the above goals, the government will work hard to improve Hong Kong's employment, enhance the city's competitiveness, speed up infrastructure projects, explore overseas markets and lower local markets' transaction costs.
