Macao Donates US$4.375 Mln to Tsunami-hit Nations

Macao, a region with a population of 470,000, has donated US$4.375 millionto tsunami-hit countries, local media reported Tuesday.

Macao Daily News, the leading local Chinese newspaper, quoted sources from the Macao office of the Red Cross as saying that 1.25 million dollars had been presented to the United Nations for emergency relief.

Another 1.25 million dollars were spent on the project of the Friendship Village in Sri Lanka, co-operated with the China office of the Red Cross.

The rest of the donation was used for training and aid programsin Indonesia, the most-devastated nation in the Indian Ocean tsunami on Dec. 26, 2004.
