Govt to Fist on Corruption in Planning Sector

The Chinese government will launch a nationwide campaign to check the efficiency of its urban and rural planning sector, a remarkable way to fight against corruption.

The Chinese Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Supervision held a joint video-phone conference in Beijing Friday, announcing the national campaign will begin in January 2006.

Minister of Construction Wang Guangtao said the campaign will target on all governmental departments and staffs involved with the sector of urban and rural planning, and any illegal behaviors, such as changing urban plans blindly and causing the waste of land resources for personal purpose, will be punished according to law.

The nationwide check will last till June 2007, said Wang.
