An international symposium was held in Shanghai on September 6, 2006 with the theme "Five Years After China's Accession to the WTO: Retrospect and Prospect." In his speech at the symposium, Pascal Lamy, director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), praised China for well fulfilling its WTO commitments made upon entry.
