Nong Duc Manh, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, on Wednesday invited Chinese computer giant Lenovo to invest in Vietnam.

 

Manh, in China for a five-day visit, visited the headquarters of Lenovo in northwest Beijing, accompanied by Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

 

Liu, also secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, told Manh he was deeply impressed by Vietnam's development during his visit there in 2004 and by the progress made by the Vietnamese party, government and people.

 

Beijing had also seen fast economic growth in recent years and would take the opportunity of hosting the Olympic Games in 2008 to further boost development, Liu said.

 

Located in Beijing's Zhongguancun technology district, Lenovo has been an example of innovation since it was founded in 1984.

 

China and Vietnam could expand cooperation in high-tech fields where there was huge potential, Liu said.

 

Manh visited a production line and inspected Lenovo's products, such as personal computers, laptops, mobile phones and wireless service facilities.

 

He arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for an official goodwill visit to China.

 

He held talks with his Chinese counterpart and President Hu Jintao on Tuesday. They agreed to develop bilateral ties and boost trade and economic cooperation.
