The four largest telecom service providers in China are scheduled to discuss technical standards for the third-generation (3G) mobile communications networks.
The Mobile Multimedia Technology Alliance (MMTA), a non-government organization, said on Wednesday that the First Forum of China Mobile Phone Technology Development will be held from August 10 to 11 in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China.
The MMTA said the forum is expected to focus on technical standards of mobile TV, testing and certificating standards of the 3G mobile phones, customized mobile phones and standardization in new technology and new operation of mobile multimedia.
The 3G mobile communications technology refers to a new system that integrates wireless communications with multimedia communications like the Internet.
By utilizing the 3G communications network technology standards which are internationally accepted, the 3G mobile phones can be used for web browsing, conference calls and Internet shopping.
Founded in 2004, the MMTA comprises the China Academy of Telecommunication Research of the Ministry of Information Industry, the four largest telecom service providers in China which are China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Netcom, as well as telecom manufacturers Potevio, Huawei, ZTE, Vimicro, and Alcatel Shanghai Bell.
Officials from the Ministry of Information Industry, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and scholars from various research institutes will also attend the forum.
