Adjust font size:

The China National Offshore Oil Company Limited (CNOOC Ltd.) announced Tuesday that its wildcat Luda (LD) 6-2-1 drilled independently in the Bohai Bay hit a new discovery recently.

The LD 6-2-1 wildcat is located in the Liaodong Bay, with a water depth of about 30 meters. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,395 meters.

The well was tested to yield about 620 barrels of oil and 240,000 cubic feet of natural gas per day via 7.14mm choke during the drill stem test, said the CNOOC Ltd.

According to Zhu Weilin, vice president of the company and general manager of the exploration department, in 2006, several new discoveries have been made so far in the Bohai Bay, including the LD 6-2, BZ29-4 and BZ28-2S.

These new discoveries will further enlarge the reserve base of the CNOOC Ltd. in the Bohai Bay, he said.

By the end of 2005, the CNOOC Ltd. boasted a proved reserve of over one billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Bohai Bay with an annual per day output of 187,000 barrels.

Incorporated in Hong Kong, the CNOOC Ltd. is a 70.64 percent held subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China's largest offshore oil and gas producer.
