Northwest China's Gansu Province is to invest more than 20 billion yuan (US$2.5 billion) to rebuild its electricity grid from 2006 to 2010.
The province has made a long-term plan for electricity grid reconstruction using a variety of operating energy resources such as coal, natural gas and water.
According to the plan, the province will not only produce enough electricity for itself, but also be able to offer surplus electricity to its neighboring provinces.
During the period, Gansu will set up a new electricity grid of 750-kilovolt with a length of 2,000 km, accounting for two-thirds of the total length in the northwest region.
