Senior Chinese Leaders Join Lawmakers' Panel Discussions

Senior Chinese leaders Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun and Luo Gan joined lawmakers' panel discussions on Friday, underlining the governance of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the country's reform and development drive.

The leadership of the Party guarantees that the people are the masters in the country's political life and that the country is governed by law, said Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), at a panel discussion of NPC deputies from Hebei Province.

The top legislator stressed that the leadership of the Party also serves as a basis for improving the performance of the NPC, the fundamental political system of China.

Premier Wen Jiabao pointed out at another panel discussion with NPC deputies from northeast China's Liaoning Province that various protruding economic and social problems have to be resolved through reform and development, underscoring that reform is a significant policy that decides China's prospect.

Senior CPC officials Li Changchun and Luo Gan joined the discussions of lawmakers from Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, exchanging views with NPC deputies about issues concerning China's 11th Five-Year Guidelines on economic and social development, building a harmonious society, anti-drug campaign, and promoting national unity.

The four senior leaders are all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

The 10th National People's Congress, the Chinese legislature, is holding its annual full session in Beijing, bringing together more than 2,900 lawmakers from across the country.
