Yellow River Pollution Warning Lifted
Adjust font size:

The government of central China's Henan Province lifted a Yellow River pollution warning Saturday night after a diesel oil leakage hit the river's branch Thursday.

The water quality in the Yellow River's branch Yiluo River, where the pollution occurred, and the lower reaches were found to meet safety standards, according to the government.

The leakage took place around 10:00 AM Thursday at the No. 2 power plant of Gongyi, a city in Henan.

Investigation shows the diesel oil pipe broke due to frost and about 12 tons of diesel oil flowed out of a tank, including six tons into Yiluo River.

The provincial government took immediate measures after the leakage to curb the spread of pollutants but some diesel oil flowed into Yellow River and affected the water quality.
