As part of its nationwide efforts to create special police forces, the Ministry of Public Security has decided to change the uniforms for these special units, it was reported on August 7 in the Beijing-based Mirror.
From Beijing to Guangzhou, from Shanghai to Harbin and Lanzhou, 240 policemen were selected to try the new uniforms, subsequently reporting their feelings thereon and giving suggestions for improvement.
Prepared in twin sets, new uniforms have been designed both for summer and winter use. While they keep in line with the 1999 police uniform style, their functionality, defence and practicability have all been strengthened.
The uniform's complete set includes a combat training suit, chest-pad and cap, doubled for winter and summer use, as well as a multi-functional cotton-padded coat, full/half-finger gloves, a gunstock set, waistband, and combat training t-shirt, defence mask and shoes. The design is the same both for training and in-field combat.
The Ministry of Public Security held a meeting on August 7 in Dalian, Liaoning Province, to initiate this testing period, which is expected to end in February 2007.
