Grain Security Allows No Optimism in China

Top government advisers Monday called for high attention to guaranteeing the security of grain, saying that the situation allows no optimism in China.

Liu Liqing, Shi Wanpeng and Duan Yingbi, members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), held in their keynote speeches that the government should further improve the capability of grain production in the major grain production areas and redouble efforts to ensure grain supply in the remote and poverty-stricken areas in west China.

At the second plenary meeting of the third session of the CPPCC National Committee, which is going in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing Monday afternoon, other CPPCC members will also speak on issues concerning the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the management of state assets, the non-state economic sector, agricultural insurance, workers of mines with exhausted resources, the rise of the central China region, and the role of Hong Kong and Macao in helping mainland companies to go to the foreign market.
