A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Sunday urged the CPC and government officials to prioritize the improvement of the work style of the Party and government and provide highly efficient and quality services to their people.
"The people will not only listen to what we say, but will watch what we do," said Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Wu, who heads the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said that the improvement of the CPC and government's work style has a direct bearing on the implementation of the scientific outlook on development, the building of a harmonious socialist society and the improvement of the Party's governance capability.
"Therefore, we have to intensify our efforts to make achievements in this regard," said Wu when he joined the delegation of lawmakers from Shandong Province, east China, in their discussion about the government work report by Premier Wen Jiabao at the annual session of the National People's Congress, the top legislature.
To this end, Wu called on officials to heed views, suggestions and criticisms of the people and abide by regulations banning the offering and accepting of money bribe, seeking promotion for personal gains, conniving family members and subordinates to gain unlawful benefits, collecting money or goods on major occasions of their family such as marriage and funeral, and gambling.
"We should continue to earnestly resolve problems relevant to the fundamental interests of the people and promote social harmony and unity.
"We should step up inspection over the implementation of various systems and regulations and correct all errors and mistakes found during the inspection," he said.
Wu also called on officials to give full scope to the supervisory role of the people and continue innovating the systems so as to uproot the soil to generate corruption.
