CPPCC to Contribute to Development Plans

China's top advisory body would contribute its ideas to the formulation of the country's 11th five-year plan (2006-2010) on economic and social development and long-term target for 2020, Chairman Jia Qinglin said in Beijing Thursday.

Jia highlighted the help for the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council, or the central government, to map out development plans as a "key job" to be done by the advisory body in his report on the work of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

He urged various sub-committees under the CPPCC National Committee to bring forth their views and proposals after making researches into major issues related to the country's development plans.

The CPPCC National Committee should hear opinions extensively from all walks of life on China's major policies as well as top issues in the country's political, economic, cultural issues and major problems in social life, so as to make political consultation truly an "important link" in the scientific and democratic decision-making by the Party and government in 2005, Jia added.

Meanwhile, Jia also called for the CPPCC National Committee to do a good job in building up and further improving itself. The CPPCC National Committee should organize its members to beef up the study of major Party and state policies, the basic theories concerning the united front work and people's consultation, the related knowledge in economic management, sciences and laws and keep improving its work capability, he said.
