Only when the Beijing University Games' opening ceremony concludes could volunteer Dai Lu be relieved from the spectacular extravaganza which she had been serving for more than two months.
Dai, a junior student of China Youth College for Politics Science, said that the works for the volunteers here were quite beyond their expectation.
"My friends all admired me when they knew I am serving for the opening ceremony, as they thought I would be the first one to watch the gala. But the works here are quite different from their imagination."
Managing the documents, typing the caption on the electronic screen in the stadium is the daily job for Dai. "It is an important task, especially typing the captions. The ceremony will last for three hours and there are hundreds of captions and pictures should be done." she said.
There are more than 10,000 university students serving for the Universiade. They are called Rainbow Volunteers because they wear in seven colors.
Yet the 21-year-old girl is still satisfied with her assignment, saying "I am comparably lucky because I can watch the rehearsals and the opening ceremony. Not all the volunteers have the chance. "
Gao Jinping, also from China Youth College for Politics Science, has to stay at the entrance during the ceremony. "My friends can hardly believe that I have no idea about what's going on inside the stadium." said Gao.
"But I'm not disappointed as I can find my name among the working staff, I'm now a member of the Games and that's the most important thing." said Gao.
Feng Qingsong, an official of the Opening Ceremony organizing committee, praised the volunteers as "vigorous and energetic". "They contributed quite a lot in the preparation works. I don't think the ceremony would be so good without them."
