The 24th Luoyang Peony Festival opened on Monday in central
China's Henan Province, and flowers in blossom are
expected to attract both bees and investment.
Luoyang, once an imperial capital for 13 dynasties through the
Chinese history, grows China's best tree peonies. And peony flowers
were deemed as royal flower for its luxuriant blossom symbolizing
prosperity and richness.
Wang Jihong, secretary-general of the local peony garden, said
that over 10,000 tourists visited the garden occupying 1,300 ha. of
land on the first day of the festival, which will last till May
10.
Wang said that over 20 countries have introduced peony species
from Luoyang.
Luoyang will host a series of trade fairs and economic exchange
activities during the festival. The flower show has helped attract
over 400 business people to the city. Deals on 183 projects worth
34 billion yuan (US$4.25 billion) are expected to be signed during
the festival.
Among the visitors, Sze Shun Ching, president of a Philippine
tire company, said that he was negotiating with Chinese dealers on
some projects in Luoyang.
"This is my first time to see tree peonies. I love them very
much. It is pleasant to do business here while enjoying flowers,"
he said.
