Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and the new Prime Minister of
Thailand Surayud Chulanont will meet at the commemorative summit
between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN
), said a Chinese Foreign Ministry official on Friday.
The summit will be held on October 30 in Nanning, capital of
south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to
commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of
China-ASEAN dialogue.
Tong Xiaoling, an official with the ministry's Asian Department,
said, Premier Wen will meet with the leaders of the ten ASEAN
countries during the summit but the agenda is yet to be confirmed.
The two sides will review the growth of China-ASEAN friendly ties
and set out the future development of their relationship.
The ASEAN is made up of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos,
Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam.
Tong said the leaders of the ten ASEAN countries and ASEAN
Secretary-General will all attend the summit. They will attend the
opening ceremony, hold a meeting behind closed doors and sign a
joint statement, outlining a blueprint for cooperation in the
future.
She said the summit is a historic event in China-ASEAN relations
which will further strengthen bilateral relations.
According to Tong, nearly 500 Chinese and foreign journalists
have signed up to report on the summit.
