Shenzhen 2011 Summer Universiade launched an Internet torch relay on Tuesday, along with the physical torch relay at Shenzhen University.
A total of 90 torchbearers run the Universiade torch relay at Shenzhen University on Tuesday, when tens of thousands pass the flame through the Internet.
The virtue torch passes one by one via a social network web site Pengyou.com, which runs by local Internet giant Tencent, one of the world biggest Internet companies.
The Internet relay also starts from Shenzhen University and will light more than 700 universities around China, making over 210,000 university students available for the Universiade torch relay.
Organizer said the Internet torch relay was an innovation that had never happend in the torch relays for big sports events before.
"More people could get access to the torch relay as we put it one the internet, while our spending would be saved." Said Yuan Chengyong, the director of the torch relay. Yuan added that the cost for the Internet relay would be only be an eighth of the physical one.
"It is green and fashion, you can't find a better way for a university games torch relay,." Yuan said.
