Both Chinese art and Korean art undergo the ever-lasting changes and transformations from conventional and traditional forms to modern-contemporary modalities. But when such shift and turn of eastern art is stressed, it doesn’t mean that its historical cultural elements will be lost. If the present period is a kind of transitive one and many art forms and methods belong to experimental efforts, the broad horizon of diversified art has to be offered and the exploration of artistic expression and articulation should be emphasized. Art at present becomes so detached from its conventional conception and then enters a stage of visual revolution and conceptual avant-garde, which brings the controversial arguments on what art should be and what purpose for.

No matter how intense difficulties such debates generate, the enthusiasm and commitment artists show are still a strong drive for them to continue art practice and regard art as their own life embodiment. This exhibition is to show how Chinese and Korean artists think of their own existence with art and how they respond when encountering today’s cultural pluralism. They try to make efforts to look for the adequacy and significance of the eastern art among contemporary life. From their art, the tranquility and meditation of life with art can be experienced and the fresh and new sense of expression can be felt. That the wonderful visions are created in such ways is always a task challenged ahead of artists.
