Methane Gas: New Power Generation Source in Tibet
Adjust font size:

China plans to invest 16 million yuan in the building of 2,500 methane-generating pits in farming and pastoral areas in southwest China's Tibetan Autonomous Region.

In recent years, Tibet has set up methane generating pits on a trial basis in some areas.

With the development of new technologies, solar energy and wind power are now widely used in the daily lives of farmers and herders in Tibet, who previously used cow feces as a source for power generation.

China’s Ministry of Agriculture has selected 50 professional technicians from adjacent Sichuan Province and northeast China's Liaoning Province to help with the development of the methane gas project. Each of them has been made responsible for training 10 local Tibetans in knowledge relevant to the success of the project.
