Suzhou Disposes of Dangerous Waste

Suzhou, one of the four places designated by SEPA to be a demonstration model, will soon launch the construction of its centralized dangerous waste safe disposal center after two years of preparation.

The city has more than 130 firms that produce an annual output of 91,800 tons of dangerous waste. 77,000 tons of those dangerous waste were turned to good use and the city safely disposes of 14,800 tons.

The executive meeting of the city's council has enacted rules for dangerous waste pollution control and handed it to the city's legislature for deliberation.

The city transferred more than 40,000 tons of dangerous waste and more than 30,000 used containers of chemical coating materials last year. It boasts of 15 firms that dispose of dangerous waste with an annual capacity of 90,000 tons of dangerous waste and 200,000 used containers of chemical coating materials.

The disposal of dangerous waste has caught the attention of society at large as the city develops its export-oriented economy and the amount and variety of dangerous waste rise.
